    The sand helps keep it from arking out when it blows it turns to glass and capturs a lot of the viporizes betal and can look realy cool .I have never torn one apart that has not blown good vid ๐Ÿ‘

    The sand like substance is to stop the fuse from exploding.
    If you have ever seen a glass 20mm x 5mm fuse explode the reason is that if it gets a huge over load i.e. a short where the load is say 100 times the fuse rating the fuse element evapourates and the deposites as a thin film on the inside of the glass tube.
    This can make the circuit again but because the metal is on a surface it cannot heat up quickly so a huge current again flows this time shattering the glass.
    The ceramic versiions of this fuse called HRC (High Rupture Current) have the sand like substance in them and it stops the formation of the 2nd fuse when it evaourates.
