sounds more like cnn bought out a company they felt was a competitor, shut it down. now giving him a job to make him an employee vs competitor. think it's called selling out : X

omg, thank you for not sitting in a chair while monologging, like so many lazy vloggers are just sitting in front of a camera and blathering for 12 minutes, love your channel!

With Beme, Casey was probably already in talks with CNN when Beme was created. I would not doubt that Beme was created so that a company like CNN can buy it and then shut it down.

Why do this? Taxes. If CNN were to simply hire Casey and put him on salary, that is ordinary income taxes. However, if they compensate him mostly in the Beme buyout, that is capital gains taxes (much better).

Corporations do this all the time to avoid taxes. Try to convert ordinary to capital gains by trading assets instead of income. Reduce those capital gains with deductions. Then dry to defer them as well through various other instruments.

Casey is a smart guy, everything he has done up to now has been to make him money.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MrBrymstond says:

I thought they sold the app because CNN approached him with a lot of money just to shut him up and kill the app… Part of buying the app is a agreement that he can't mention certain things.

Your iPhone 7 footage is great! Love to see the giveaway anytime 6-9 pm pacific time. I'd love to use it to get shots of the rock climbers in Joshua Tree NP!

I hope Casey is happy with his blood money from Clinton News Network. CNN need someone who dumb hipster mellenials know to sell Hitlerys run for the white house in 2020.

I never used Beme. But all i know is that it didn't have much of a user base and it was declining. The bigger question is why CNN bought this company out for $25M. It seems like they're basically bought out the team to become an in house operation for CNN and Beme itself will be shut down (i.e., they paid for the talent, not the company). So they'll be spending more money for that team to operate under CNN.

As far as Casey, he had venture capital funding for Beme (i think about $2M) and probably and with other investors (unknown) and perhaps some more in debt (unknown) to keep it going, not sure how much of that $25M he gets to keep in the end. But he's under contract by CNN (unknown in terms of salary or arrangement) so he'll be getting paid a salary by Time Warner going forward. So basically, he and his team are now on CNN payroll, and his time is now paid for to run that team (i.e., no more spending all day vlogging, hence its demise). I'm sure that the benefits were attractive enough for him to go this route, both artistically and financially.

Was Beme a failure or success? Well, the company itself was a failure because it never took off. But from a "Casey Neistat, Co." perspective, i guess you can call it a success.

keep up the good work man. No only Casey, Ben Brown, Sara inspire people. You absolutely do it too. Regards from Brazil.

Casey had a couple rounds of funding. I hope he t least broke even.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars djrickysmith says:

Good points about how Casey was able to sell a failing app. I was on beme for 2 months, then just felt it was a waste of time. I've been using a phone gimbal since April. I bought a swift cam.

I just want to throw this out there about Casey. At least he had his employees back. He could of put them out on the street like so many companies do, but he didn't. I respect that about him. He also didn't pocket that much money either. He had investors he had to pay back to. So he didn't get that total amount of $25 million. I'm excited to see what happens in the future. I believe his YouTube videos will be more exciting bc he will have more time to work on them.
On about you now. Do the giveaway the way you want to. You do some exciting things on your channel. You taught me about electric cars. I knew about them but I had no idea people was doing it to there own cars. I thought it was just big companies. Thank you for that. Love all your videos. And I can't wait to get my Bendypod, I've been waiting for since Kickstarter. Have a great day.
