Bad cable!
But need steady camerawork please!!!
Senor Garcia you are a legend. A hero to many underdogs.
bad design!! cable that's burnt is the "shortest" so has the least resistance..
You live Dangerously Sir. LMAO
Hey Jehu, I'm surprised that many of the EVWest guys did not know the cause of this, especially due to the type of work that they do. I'm not dis-crediting EVWest by no means, but this is basic electrical theory like many people have commented – This was due to simple resistance in the cable length, not from the crimp or the cable material, but the length. If you cut the lugs off the four individual cables and measured each of the four lengths, the one that was overloaded will be the shortest. Looking at the bend you have in these four cables, you could have had up to 1-1.5 inches difference between the longest cable in the bunch and the overloaded cable. if you were drawing 600 amps, even a 1/4 of an inch in difference would have caused the shortest cable to carry the highest load at those high currents.Electrons will always find the path of least resistance
microsparking all day long
The one which brunt up was due the length of cable. The one which brunt up was shorter and took the higher current.
I would say it's neither the cable nor crimp. This problematic cable is the shortest cable of the 4, meaning that it had the least resistance, and it would take the highest current. since lengths are relatively short, length delta for this cable will be significant and it would only balance the resistance when it heats up enough to equate R with each of the other cables.
Just the length difference, for sure.
At 600A, each milliohm difference is amplified to 600mV drop, so with the end connected in parallel (thus forcing equal voltage) the shorter cable is going to carry way more current than the rest.
Next time you don't have the right cable around, strip them all, twist all cores together and apply heat shrink around the bundle to create the fatter cable.
man it's simple, it's the path of least resistance the electricity's going to try to go through the shortest wire and that happens to be the one that's burnt problem solved
Yes, in electrical double tap is not allow in 100% of all jurisdictions.
Bad Copper
Some EVwest guys should be fired…
