Right today i'm gonna show you how to set up the easiest 20 kilowatt kilowatt hour power wall we're gonna put it in that corner right there all first we're gonna attack this rack mount units. All right these uh did not come with instructions so you just gotta lay. It out all the parts and just use common sense. It's not that hard to put this stuff together all right so here's how you start putting these together uh.

It's very simple. I just looked online uh at jackie purse website and just saw them the pictures on the rack. And that was enough for me to put it together so basically you there's four of these uprights. The longer ones and there's two pairs right so two of them are exactly the same and then two are mirror.

And so you pick the two different ones right two pairs uh that are mirrored and then like the bottom side of it has like has an end cap right here. It's bent and then it has a hole and then the top ones don't don't have anything and the reason for that we're gonna we're gonna see if we can put a wheel up there so that you can roll this thing around right then these are the uh yeah they go sideways. So the racks mount this way and uh you really can't go wrong. Because there's eight of them so that means.

There's four per ladder like this little ladder that you have to build and all these holes are square. And then there's four round ones and those round ones also have a matching one on this side. And so that's how you mount those right. And then now that you have the two ladders.

One of these ones going to be the front and one of them is going to be the back and that stuff that connects that is these and this is the same thing. There's pairs and so just by process of elimination that's how you put it together because we didn't get any uh instructions with this maybe if i can find some online or if you know of any online. Do put in the comments and then i will i will link it in the in this video. All right so there it is that's the rack.

You slide. The units right here. Now one thing. I didn't get was enough screws to put on here unless.

There are other screws inside the boxes. There then these screws are for here. So i'll just wait all right now that we can confirm there are extra screws and these little nuts in there inside of the uh battery boxes. Then we can put the rest of these screws onto the rack to finish putting screws everywhere all right so here are the casters that i have i bought this for some other project they're 5 16.

But these holes are a bit bigger about 3 8. So these are like one size too small. But i think we'll be able to fit them. Using some washers um.

Another thing that i'm noticing here is that these are not welded on the bottom. So even though they are folded and they have this thing. It might be a little flimsy. But we'll see let's let's put this together uh.

I will link the correct ones. The the slightly bigger ones that have the bigger stud. But i'll use these and see how that holds and then we'll go from there i might have to replace them there we go the casters are on it seems to roll pretty good. We'll see how they go all right so uh.
What i've done this is by the way the new jacket. Battery. Got new uh better terminals here in my opinion. 48 volts.

100. Amp. Power rate. At.

52 volts. Nominal energy. Is. Uh.

51. Kilowatt or. 5121. Hours.

Discharge current. Max 100. Amps. And what you have to do is you have to put these little ears on there with those little six screws and then you just have to pop in these little nuts over here.

And then the last step is to mount it in there. So you'll watch me struggle. Mounting these up. There all right and here is the problem with doing what i did there.

See how those wheels are bent. Because those uh that bottom feet is not welded together right so those are bending uh and so yeah. I kind of i kind of called it before. But i was like well let's try it with the weight of only two of these these are bending.

So definitely. This is not the way to do it you'd have to put a whole plate on the bottom. And then put casters there so it would serve as an extra surface now that didn't work either because that wood was too soft. So the wheels ended up bending also all right so there it is this is our 20 kilowatt hour battery backup battery setup.

It's not just backup you could use it just as any type of battery and uh. It's one of the easiest as you saw a couple of hours. I were able to put this together now the wheels that took many times more to put together than this i tried different things you saw in the time lapses. There.

But eventually i ended up using this x rail stuff. And that's strong enough to hold all this weight right. But it was important for me to be able to roll it in and out this is basically one of the easiest systems to put together doesn't require a lot of skills to do right like you could buy these cables. I made them here right in house.

But you can buy these cables at the jacket per uh store. They sell them to you uh. And so then you can just buy them install them to screw them on uh. This is the inverter and let me just explain a little bit i'm gonna show you in another video in the next video.

I'm gonna show you how to connect this to your building or to your house to be able to use this as a battery system right and how to use it on a existing solar system right that's one of the questions that i get a lot is how do you add battery to your solar system uh. This is one of the easiest systems to put together. It's got a lot of advantages and i'm gonna go through those in the next video. But right now i'm gonna show you just the inverter the inverter here it's a six kilowatt split phase.

Inverter by sun gold power. And there's a bunch of reviews on these these are good because they're low frequency. What that means is that they have a big transformer here and that's what does the grunt of the work and lowering the voltage. And so because of that these are very very robust and they last long time you can uh you can beat them up.
Quite a bit. So they you can hit them up with the in rush current right and so these will uh survive that the other cool thing about this is that it has a built in charger. So this right here can serve dual purpose. So when you want to charge this battery.

It's you you use this right here up to 60 amps uh and when you want to discharge this battery and put energy back into 2020 volt ac. Then this is the same device you can use to do that. And it has a transfer switch built in here. Which is a very cool feature.

Because then you can use this as a ups you connect this you connect your circuits on the output. And then you connect the power uh going in into input. And then when the power ever goes out or if the power ever goes out then immediately right this thing will switch make the switch over and will take the power from the batteries. And then use that to your circuit.

So it's all integrated right here and there are many versions of this there are better quality. I think this is on the lower end um. But there are you know inverters that i have a lot of features large communities of people and users that have forums and stuff. And so there's a lot of advantages to using some of the hiring equipment.

But you don't have to there's some of this lower end equipment that works really well all right. So the only a custom wires. That you will have to make is the ones that are connecting the batteries to the inverter and what you can see i did hear is i put the positive on this very top post. But then the negative on this very lower post let me see if i can explain this if you take the power to the inverter from here.

Then this top battery. Here is going to see the the brunt of the of the load right and so what's going to happen is this battery here is going to run harder than all the other ones because each one of these cables will have extra resistance and so this battery. Which is the the farthest from the point. Where you're taking the power.

Well that's going to have its easiest job. And so that's going to see less work. And it's going to see less tear and wear where that one right. There is going to run hotter is going to see more harder cycles and so that's the one that might quit first.

But if you put the positive you remove from this battery. But the negative from this battery or vice versa. Then the load gets distributed equally because even though this one right here is seeing the brunt on the positive side well. It's seeing the least amount on the negative side and this one over here is seeing the brunt of the load on the negative side.
So. Then this is a more even more symmetrical uh load uh and balance load. Throughout this uh. Battery uh system here right and so even though it looks like this right here.

It's not the way to go because this red cable. Now it's longer than the red than the black cable that's going in here in reality. It's loading the batteries on a more even way and so i suggest you guys do that now. There's a bunch of things that you can add to this like you could have fuses circuit breakers you could do all that stuff between the batteries and the inverter here.

I didn't do that on this setup. Because i want to keep it simple and because every one of these batteries has already a circuit breaker. So if you turn these off you can turn this battery for example and there's still no power going on to the dc bus. Because this is this is off so this system right here is just turning on the bms uh.

Waking up the batteries on stuff that you can go through here and check to see if all the batteries are in the same voltage before you turn those systems on and then if you so let's say you turn on all these batteries. Well if you only turn one of these. It's still only gonna take power from one of these. So you so these have kind of redundant uh safeties.

So that even if you exceed like for example. There's a short somewhere in this line right. Here. Uh.

And this is gonna be your first line of defense. This will get hot right away and then click to the off position and if that fails then there's still mosfets inside of the bms in here right so there's many levels of safety that this system has you can add an extra fuse in between from going in here to here. And that'd be to protect if you had long uh wire runs like this but in this case. Because they're so short.

And it's right there and everyone has one that i decided not to do it. But you could obviously do it you could put a fuse and you can put external circuit. Breakers you could do all that stuff it doesn't hurt to add more a little bit more of safety. So there you go.

This is the jackpot battery system you can buy this whole system. And it includes. I think a free rack like to go along with it and they did tell me that in a future rack that they're working on they will have one that has legs. Because i think they recognize also that the usefulness of having this on wheels uh and so maybe you can get that if not then i'll post a separate video where i'll show you exactly what we did here to use that and i'll just basically give you all the parts that you'll have to buy uh and then you can put this little card together in here.

I want to thank jackpot for sponsoring this video. They sent me these batteries for me to review and test and play with and i will do that in the next few videos like i said i'm gonna show you the next video show you how to connect that into your building or into your house and how easy it was gonna be to have battery backup and a battery system that you can use just to save you money all right. We'll see you guys in the next video bye. So.

Wheels with weight is never a good idea. Far too easy to tip over if you pull a unit out of the rack.

I'm about 90% certain based on the construction that those holes aren't for casters, they're for tie down bolts so you can anchor the rack into your floor if you live in a seismically active area.

Can they be linked to automatically current balance between the units?

this is a great video i learned a lot! and i wanted to ask are you going to make something like a bluetti with 25kwh for homes next? i love the design that you also made with the pcb on the cost effective battery sadly i am too afraid to do it in the event of burning the house down sadly….

Itโ€™s nice that there are now component systems that are getting closer to being affordable for those with humble incomes.

How long could a battery like this run a 4 ton A/C unit on a hot day?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Laminack says:

I have solar and a Tesla Powerwall that runs the house but on hot days like today (104) my battery would be depleted in no time with the A/C after the sun is down. Could a separate system like this be set up to charge from solar and run the A/C?

they need to beef up that rack bottom wheels.. having wheels is a must for this type of set up easy to move about …

is it just me thats worried about that inverter output plug? you know the one that would have 120V or 220V at the pins of those plugs?
