So all righty all right here we go look at it go so you want to build a diy power wall. I'll show you how to do one using these as batteries and these as your inverter, you can build a small diy power wall. Let's get going so all right guys, let's make another video. Let's answer some of your questions: keith tucci! If charging 16 sells at one, do you need to put but here's an interesting question, you're asking if all the cells have to be at the same voltage for you to be able to charge them together, uh, let's test that today negative to negative positive to positive 1.4, look at that, it's 2.2 all right! So after two hours, the only question left to answer is how much charge did it get, and so i'm gon na test that right now this is a pretty legit uh charging station yeah btc power thanks.
As you know, ev west is not the only place. Turning old gas guzzlers into you know, ultra modern electric clean vehicles, there are other people doing the same thing all over the world, such as the case as conrad and andrew all the way down in australia. These guys are converting cars and they have a bunch of cool projects, vw bugs the car that i used to drive today, i'm going to show you how to build this electric skateboard. As you know, electric skateboards are a thing now.
They've been a thing for a while there's the expensive ones, there's the cheap ones and everything in between, but there's a new breed of electric skateboards they're off-road and you got a glimpse of one of them. Last time i was in new york and i got to mean vitaly, which runs the portable electric vehicles channel on youtube. He built himself this beast of an electric skateboard that supposedly does about 55 miles per hour, which is just insane. So i thought i would show you how i would build one on the cheap using all the shell parts to keep the build simple.
So let's get started hi anthony. What are you doing on these panels right now, the brackets they go here and then we're throwing them up there right yeah. We are going to work on the power wall, we're going to install more of the solar panels up on the roof. Let's go check it out, and here are the cables.
Nine, i'm here at the ev show san marcos, california, and here's crystal charging her tesla in the solar trailer. So this is a smart one. It follows the sun: it tracks the sun. It's got tesla batteries in there.
Let's see it's charging, what's it putting in. Oh, my god, it's charging at 32, damn 243 volts, wait what okay, yes, wow! This thing is actually charging no way. That's cool! Okay! Oh look at that. It just adjusted to follow the sun the sun's there.
Now the panels are facing it empty. What's going on here, as you guys know, uh classic cars have really really bad brakes. Usually it's because it's all technology right. It's uh drum brakes from the 50s, especially like this one right here right, and so they just don't cut it for modern times, and so what we're gon na do today is we're gon na change that and put disc brakes right. Here's what we're replacing and we're replacing them with two custom made front hubs: milled out of the billet aluminum right up, one big chunk of aluminum by wagons west out in oregon. Let me tell you it's night and day uh from the original drum brakes that this thing had thursday morning today is the day that we power up this guy for the first time that is so smooth. They come in on gas leave on electrons five percent, we're in low right yeah. It applies maximum brake regions.
Should we do it for burnout, let's go to the biggest bw show in southern california. You ready to go. Are you how about you wayne there's our spot underneath this tree here that fielded all right, the ceremonious installation of the contactor box. I mean it's not done, but pretty close to being done.
Looks like this guys, since i decided that i'm gon na sell my use. Samba batteries right the cal batteries hutch also from the ferrari here, the electric ferrari has decided that he wants to change his batteries and so he's gon na have some of these batteries for sale. Actually, all these i'm live. Alright, everyone.
How are you guys doing um? How yeah, i'm still in new york as it turns out uh i am, i had to stay a little bit longer because the project was running behind but uh i decided to go, live tonight and see what we're up to where are you guys doing? What are you guys up to what questions do you have? What are we building? Hopefully we're building some diy stuff and uh yeah, and i haven't been reading your things there. Are you sure you don't want to invest in my bitcoin trading strategy? Oh yeah, by the way bitcoin was way up the last few days right um. Also, today, tesla was like all-time record. I think it was like really high.
I looked at my thing and i was like whoa look at that i should have had more tesla but uh. You know i don't have that much yeah. So if you've invested in bitcoin or tesla you're doing pretty good these days uh this week at the anyways jose rasula says this. Other guy does live feed with followers and those who can do easy streaming.
I don't know what does that mean? Uh hope new york is going well yeah, it's okay, except it's gon na rain. Today they said it's gon na be nasty tomorrow and uh, i'm kind of afraid, because uh yeah, the east coast, uh yeah ranges are they're bad from what i can hear right. It's not like california, or it just rains, a few, a few drops of water and then that's it um. What's the cheapest battery monitor, i have a bms already just want to see.
The voltages. Well depends what voltage range you're talking about? Well, we have one on our website. That is a bi-directional hall effect sensor, so it it you put a cable right through it and it measures in and out and it keeps track. You program it and it's like wireless, so you can.
You can have a little screen separate from the from thing and it'll do up to 500 amps right 500 volts 500 amps, so it could be like for a big sizeable battery. I like that one, because it's like for big batteries is good right now. You might not need that. You might actually might need a smaller one. That just is connected to the thing it just gives you voltage. Those are, you know you can get a bunch of those, but this one is uh like a legit, um, bi-directional uh and it's it's programmable. You can set it to your battery parameters and stuff and yeah. You can find that jet 35 company.
We carry that one. We sell quite a bit of them and i actually included in all our builds. Our latest builds that we're doing with the big diy battery packs and stuff or diy what power wolves yeah. Let's see i built battery packs for my power tools says: need gundog there.
You go bitcoin to the moon. I need enough solar panels and batteries to run a crypto mining farm in texas woo. You need a lot of batteries. Let us know email us.
We have a lot of batteries, so we actually bought some equipment to try to do that ourselves, but we just haven't gotten around to do it. We should do it. We probably that video would probably explode, because i mean we have some of the cheapest batteries that you can get and easiest batteries to uh assemble together as large, because you need a large battery. Let's face it, the the the miners they can consume.
Quite a bit of energy, so you have to put a lot of solar and then store that in big batteries so that they can get you through the night kind of stuff. Even if it's not 100 right, i mean yeah. It depends even like a little minor like a little setup, uses quite a bit of energy, but it's okay, because it it generates quite a bit of money. Well, that's the idea right and so after you it pays for itself.
Then you know this thing yeah. We should definitely get that project going uh because we have all the stuff we just have to actually spend some time in doing it. Uh, let's see here uh. How much does your van wait? I haven't waited uh, even though i have uh an automotive scale that we bought.
We actually use that to weigh our pallets, but i got that because well, i knew that i was going to have to wait some of the vehicles right. Oh no am i stuck. I seem to be stuck on the uh. Oh no, i'm good, never mind uh.
I was looking at the thing here and that seems to give me something: uh yeah i haven't waited, but i don't think it weights. I weighed more than what the car originally was doing so yeah um somewhere around 20 700 pounds, or something like that. Probably that's where my buses right now. I think i want to see voltage of each cell for 14s um yeah other than those bluetooth pmss.
That are from china. I don't think there is a lot of stuff that you can see. I'm installing right now in the lithium bms, which is uh, it's okay, it's great, because you can do a bunch of like satellite modules you can do and each one does 12 cells. So you can do 24., no 2412! Is it 12? No, it does more than 12 because i'm using two, oh yeah, it's 24 cells per module, so we're doing 24. This one will do up to 48 and i'm only using 30 cells right now on the build that i'm doing, but there's no screen, there's no display! You have to go to a terminal screen and put in input like codes in there and then little commands, and then it will eventually show you stuff. They need to figure out like a thing. That's more user friendly before that thing is good and a car is okay. I guess, because you could just it could just program it to do like simple things like give you a warning light.
If there was an event that was triggered kind of thing, but yeah definitely need we need something better that can do 14s, and i i don't know if there are anything. If you guys use something, have you come out come up, something that i don't know you should post it in the comments here so that i can let's see 59 we're kind of slow today i guess uh, oh look lights. Finally, back on did my best to conserve my phone battery because i didn't bring my backup. This is my wife crystal she's at work, and she says that they were.
They were in the dark for like two hours or something there was no lights there's. It was a blackout which is weird because they have a giant tesla power pack at their at her school facility. So how do they? How are they in the dark? Would they have like two megawatts of battery in the in the back? It's weird: i don't know how that system is uh set up, that it doesn't work. Winter is coming um ooh.
Whenever it's minnesota right now, i guess it's cold. It's got the thing. Um, let's see i had. I had no sheba.
In fact, i am done without only lose money on them. Yes, that's true. I've lost quite a bit of money, but i just left it there and now i'm up again. So the thing is about those you kind of you got to invest, i think more so than trade right.
Unless you know what you're doing or i mean it's, gambling essentially yeah, it's it is uh is compression necessary for the flat batteries. Some of them do require it. I think some of them do require it. I don't know if all of them do, but it depends which ones you're talking about yeah.
I got four 100 watt solar pounds of amazon and evil flow eco flow delta 1300 and run everything on my shed freezer uh washer i like to eventually have a system that will run my dryer as well. Oh yeah dryer! Well, i think my dryers, i think they're 240 volts, so i don't know if the delta 1300 will do it. You i you need, i don't even know what the max will do. You might need a pro two of the pros uh or the blue eddies.
That will have that ability to do that to do split, face and stuff, but yeah. Let's see charlie nurses, i made it yes, sir, you made it. Have you looked at sourcing use batteries from discarded medical applications? Yes, we actually do those uh, oh by the way. I don't know brian uh. If you know this, i had to take those down the molly sales, because apparently the supplier doesn't want them to be so i don't know we're gon na have to figure that out because we have no. Luckily, we don't have that many right, but we were about to buy another lot of those. Those are medical batteries and i we have to figure that out like we want them. If we can't sell them right, but i think we bought a lot and we started selling them and now we're down to like a few packs and we're about to get another but yeah.
So we get stuff from medical stuff, all the time, uh yeah. We have all kinds of sources uh. Those are good because, usually those have to be replaced, whether they're, good or bad or used, or not, used every so often just to keep everything, because they have these super high uh demanding uh rules that require them to change things with their. They need to or not so there we go.
Um pouch batteries, pouch cells do require compression um. They do require some so think about the rc cars right. They usually have that shrink, wrap thing and sometimes tape around. So they do some some kind of compression.
It's not, i don't think it's a lot of depression but uh. How is the food in new york, city uh? It's okay? I have okay, i had pizza and usually i'm like whatever i don't eat pizza anymore over in california, but they got it here like that. It's new york, let me try it and yeah i'll, try it. I'm like! Oh yeah.
Your pizza is like really good. Even in long island, bro man, it's like crazy, uh other than that all the other stuff has been okay, i'm like yeah. No, i haven't had nothing like i'm in i'm in long island in a little town called hicksville, so it's outside it's just uh, i'm getting to see what the what life is in. You know rural new york, uh and i've gone to the city a couple times, and you know the city's always fun, but it's far and driving sucks in new york.
Let me tell you guys: it's it's terrible. The worlds here are terrible. It's like uh they're super windy and they like every three minutes. You have to merge into some new one.
That's pretty crazy, yeah. In fact. The second time i went to the city i didn't even want to drive, i took a. I took an uber, i'm like i have a car.
They gave me a rental, so i have a car, so i can drive it's only 30 miles, but i'm like now screw that that's like two hours of like why knuckling, like, oh, my god, where's my exit. So i was like no i'm too old for that. I don't want to get here all exhausted and you know in a bad mood because because i'm uh yeah, i don't know how you guys drive in california. The roads are straight and long.
You can just turn your brain off for hours and you're, just like here, you just you got to be on your toes no rain in the mountains of new mexico, just uh, the seven layers of the kim that are out until midnight many nights days. Are you going to make more youtube videos about e-bikes? Yes, i am as soon as i get back. I have a couple of videos uh well planned, but we still have to do the build i have most of the stuff. I just haven't literally put everything together. Um, i have a 19 2019 easy go. Golf cart with samsung sdi, lithium 50 volt battery, and i want to know if i can install it on my rv to use it as a power supply. You should be able a 50 volt uh battery should should work. Uh well depends right, but that should work with any 48 volt inverters.
You might have to change your inverter on your rv if it doesn't have a full 48 volt one but uh yeah, you could definitely use it. I think how your battery is running my house now i need more, so i can run on battery whole night says huge media production. I wonder which batteries uh yeah share more with us, there's tell us which, which ones, because at this point we have a bunch of products that you know. I don't know which ones you're talking about.
Let's see getting chilly and one day, it does blown good day. Glad to see you open streaming yeah. Thank you for that. Yes, i have to do something because it's been a few days that i haven't, i was trying to do videos every day, but it's hard here.
You know i get here and then i'm tired - and you know i don't have batteries to play with. So i don't you know. I've only seen them use high output 18650s could be a specific type of power cells. They are using for that application.
He's talking to nidgundo got a look at the e skateboards sweet. So by the way today's podcast is going to be about electric skateboards um. My guest runs a successful business uh doing selling products for the diy market on the electric skateboard. So i think it's gon na be interesting for all you, guys that are doing that are interested in doing that.
Did you have to show your papers to the gestapo uh? You know it wasn't as crazy as i thought it was gon na be. We did go to some bar to to have some drinks and eat something and yeah. The lady was asking, but it was mostly people showing her the card and she was just like okay, like yeah, i was like. I took too long to get my card out and she was like yeah whatever you know.
She didn't care, but yeah yeah yeah, it's just it's crazy. I know i have a friend here that uh that couldn't go. He didn't want to go to the city because he's not vaccinated and he's like. No, i don't want to go because they'll make me go eat outside or something do you think an ac50 motor would be strong enough to accelerate a suburban fast enough to not hold up traffic.
Well, it does. It does have enough torque, it's just. You would have to use a transmission right figure out how to run well. You know an automatic transmission, probably not because there's a lot of slip and you lose quite a bit of torque in that so probably not automatic. But if you somehow could put a manual transmission, then i bet you could you could? Do you know it's just the gears are gon na be small sort of like a volkswagen. You know it's like you know by the time you're doing 20 miles an hour. You're already on second, like 10 miles per gear kind of thing, probably uh yeah, i would put - i would put two or three at that point for a suburban, so you don't have to use a bunch of gears and you don't have to engineer some kind of Transmission uh to stay within the the torque peak right, um yeah, i think a suburban. You would need something bigger uh.
Without using a bunch of gears. Okay, uh do watch, you start using them. I know they must have tested the tools. So when i was trying out how to drive close your eyes and think at the end, what's a good mpt control charge controller for lithium iron that can manage 3 000 watts of solar panels.
I have a couple that i that i bought, and i just haven't - had the time to test them, so i can't really recommend something: uh yeah, i'm just yeah. Definitely i need more experience. I need to do more builds with solar, and the problem is that i can't install solar permanently in any of the places at my warehouses or at home, and so that kind of keeps me from doing these. You know for real, like a system for real other than just testing here and there.
So that's the problem, scooter battery and modem battery, i strip them out and i use them to make 48 volt batteries. Okay, there we go no sambas in new york city. No, not this time uh, maybe one day we'll get to bringing my hair but yeah. Definitely yeah not this time.
Thanks for the palette of scooters, oh tower bugatti, i just missed you before you headed out to new york and i was picking it up. Oh yeah, so there we go tanner bought a whole pallet of scooters. We got these scooters, you know just to test it out and we realized that we don't there's nothing. We don't have the ability to mess too much with them.
It would be it's too, too time-consuming, and so we wouldn't be able to make money. We have to sell too expensive to be able to make money right. So then we just decided to sell them. I don't know if they're on the website, i think brian it's supposed to put on on the website and i don't know um yeah.
I don't know if there are yet i got ta guess i got ta. Ask him probably well i don't know, i mean he sold you a whole palette, so i'm sure yeah. We figure out the cost and all that stuff. Let's see tom brady, when you will have 48 volt batteries uh soon, hopefully i know they're coming down the line.
I know we're getting some scooter batteries that are at 48 volts. So, although i think the ones that i have the samples right now, it's they're more like 50 volts because they're, i think they're 15s uh, but i haven't taken them apart. So i don't know 100, but you know 15s can be used as 48 volt battery one of the pros and cons of an ac 50 versus hyper 9 when using them in a bw bus um. Well, i think the hyper knight's a little bit stronger right. It's about 120 horsepower right. It's way more, it's more efficient! The ace, the the hyper guy is more efficient because it's got the permanent magnets. The the downside is that it's hard to set up like you should have seen me. I had to set up one this morning and it's the same thing as the problems is that there's still a computer and there's a cable and then there's a thing and files you have to download and drivers that you have.
It was a big deal. I mean even with with the hunter the uh, you know the owner, uh, uh and designer of the hyper nine. He was having trouble. You know doing this and it wasn't until i got some cable that i did it was it's hard.
It's not as easy. It's not super friendly to set up those now with the ac 50s. It's super simple to set them up, you, don't they come. They work out of the box.
Now they're, not perfect. You'd still have to connect like a little specialized computer, but that computer works all the time once you get that little computer you plug it in and then you can set up to your settings and stuff like that. So i like the ac 50s uh and that's why i invested. I actually got the ac ac35 uh and that's because they were super cheap.
So that's the other thing that now i can get more torque and more horsepower for less money, uh using two ac 35s than a single hyper, 9 right and so yeah they're a little bit heavier and you do have to spend money making plates to. You know connect them together, that sort of stuff right, but but still even like that, there's still cheaper to use those. Now that's just my case. I was able to buy some of those really cheap, but for the average person being an ac50 is still about the same price as hyper nine.
So if you must, and if you're good at computers yeah hyper 9 might not be that bad for you and you might not, you know care that it's a little bit more challenging to set them up, but uh yeah. Definitely those are they're about the same. You know there's some pros and cons there. I got 12 hours uh in the day so far battery.
I need to get um 12 hours more of storage at night, huh, okay, net gundo says: what's a good, cheap, 10 spms. Are there any decent, reliable brands? Uh? No, i mean, i think, they're all the same. We use those dally ones. I don't know if there are any better or they're.
If they're, i don't think they're terrible. I don't i don't. We don't get a lot of complaints about them so because we sell quite a bit of them right. We have several versions of them on our website and stuff.
I don't know we have 10 s, we might have some 10 subject. 35. I think i don't know. I bought some a while ago and i they might still be there - put solar on the samba now the summer doesn't need the necessity solar, so it can be, can charge the vehicle depending on the size or trick we'll charge them yeah. But then you have to leave it on the sun all the time, and i don't do that. Well, let me see that mine does spend quite a bit on the sun, actually nevermind, just about 240 of the 1860 batteries to build my second 760p pack for my house huh. How big of a backup battery would i need to just keep a combo, fridge and freezer running during power outage for five to eight hours? I think they use something like i think like this, like a hundred watts, i think when they're running and then like when the when the compressor starts, they might go up to like 300 watts. I think that's what i've seen at least on the one that we used to have, so i don't think they use quite a bit a lot.
I don't use it a lot, maybe like one kilowatt per per hour. Let me see, and you wan na yeah, so maybe five to eight kilowatt hours, maybe that'll be enough to run it um. Those are just rough caucasians. I should test some yeah yeah, there's there's too many variables there there's just uh a bunch of fridges that use a lot more than others.
Uh they side the power cycle wave faster yeah. I think it's probably somewhere around there, probably like five, probably like what kill one hour per hour kind of thing. Do you exchange battery packs if i cannot get it to work even after charging with the bus, uh and power connectors as well? I have the 30 cell yeah yeah, yeah, email us and then we'll send you a new one. They're, not all you know, they're, not all 100 good.
You know that we get. The vast majority are good, though, like we literally ship thousands of these batteries - and you know we replace you know - i don't know a dozen here and there or whatever um but yeah. If you have a problem and if you went through all the setups and all the guides and uh, you know all their little tricks to try to get it to working yeah, that's an email. My guys will just send you a new one.
Um tom brady did a hertz commercial that made tesla go over a thousand. Is that what happened today, tom brady, because tom brady did a hurts commercial huh? That would depend on how often a cycle yeah. So that's kind of what i said nice channel. I learned a lot of things here.
Thank you uh, but can i win with a thought? How does that mean? Oh elias keeps spamming, look at that. Well, look at that he had to join. He had to join well. This is not spam.
Look at that can do more research, he's uh he's putting dots in there yeah. What's up with that alias. What are the dots? Is that, like code for something? What's the code uh dude besides, you can ever read these things when they get past anyways. Okay, let me see so the crazy thing is that we made everyone uh be up a subscriber of the channel to be able to comment here just to see, because we did get a few people that would start spamming and stuff and it's hard to get because They put the spam in their name, so even if you really delete their thing, it says you know. Oh, a comment was deleted by so-and-so, but so-and-so is the spam right, so i'm like no now they have to join so, at least i guess maybe it keeps the bots it's like a lot of times. It's bots right, like who's, got the time to be spamming. Everything every live, chat or live stream. Um like the subject of batteries and wrenching, i will be watching for your ac35 build if it's less expensive with more torque and hp, then maybe i will keep an eye out for two of those and so yeah.
So i think, there's a couple of them still available on ebay, uh they're, the same ones that i got. I think there's some other people that bought them to resell them and they have them on uh on ebay and it seems, like maybe they're, not such a selling item, and so i think i've seen them there and they're. They keep lowering the price so yeah just search ac35 on ebay, and i think there's there's still a couple of them there, some some in california and stuff. So now i don't want to sell one, because once i sell them, i can't replace them with cheaper motors right.
So if my thing is to do something on the cheap and i got these retrieved because i bought a bunch of them, then you know if i sell them, i make some money, but i don't know well. I guess i could use all those that money that i make and just get you know hyper nines. I guess huh, i don't know, don't think about it, but i generally think like now. This is a deal.
It's kind of you can't get this deal every day. Kind of thing - and i like those motors because they're super reliable i've had one for 10 years now and never giving me any problem, and these are, you know, they're good, i like them. So what are we doing for the likes? Okay. 294 likes come on guys.
Six more we'll do the giveaway, we'll watch the stream. I mean the podcast, and then i got like 200 sales trip down right now since elias. I just use agencies to make usb power banks for led emergency lighting, and things of that nature don't think i'd. Have i use for 36 volt packs, yeah 361 packs are cool if you need them.
If you need like a sizeable thing that you're going to build right, yeah, okay, battery giveaway, okay, we got there 100 likes. Let's do this uh by the way we have at the m2, we have a battery uh giveaway uh, whatever for every 100 likes we'll do a giveaway right, let's just random i'll, just pick whoever's commenting here, but of course, if you are, will also do a 30 Cell for the members, and, of course the members are those people like frank here that and terror, or double seven by the way there i think their zone, seven has won twice or one of these guys kenneth james there's only a few of you guys here. So right so by the way, we'll give that one charlie nurse is here today with us. So there's a few members and you know that's a better. The odds are better there because there's only a few of you guys and you get a better battery. But let's do the 20 cell giveaway right now, just random boom and by the way you just got to be in the united states, because i can't ship this outside of the united states. You email uh once i announce and if you're the winner you'll have to do is go to jack 35 and make an account. And then you email, brian supported jack 25, and you tell him that you want that.
You're the person i want and then we'll confirm, and then we just put one in your cart boom, send it out. Uh there we go here is the winner of tonight's 100, like where boom din, bertusso there you go. You won the 20 cell battery pack. Okay, keep liking the video, because the sooner we get to the 200 if by the time the podcast ends, we are like at 300 400, then we'll do three four giveaways of these batteries right and then we'll do the member giveaway too, and by the way, if You want to join our membership, just have to click join or whatever in the channel somewhere in here all right guys, let's play the podcast.
The podcast today is going to be about diy electric skateboard. So if you're interested in you know like mobility stuff, like the uh skateboards, you should pay attention to our podcast. Today, all right play the podcast and we'll see you at the end for more giveaways. Mike welcome to the g, garcia, podcast uh.
I like to have interesting people and i think you're interesting, because you have an online business right. Why don't you tell us what you do and how you started? Okay, so uh, my business is emboars and back when i named the business i was barely. You know trying to figure things out and i literally just took the first letter of my name and pushed it together with boards and there we go so now. That's how we got our name um.
So originally i started this back in 2017. Back when i was like a sophomore in college, i was going to unlv at the time, and i really you know the campus is big. I want an electric skateboard and at the time like the only like main one that was worth buying, was a boosted board and it was like 1500 bucks at the time and i'm just like as a broke college kid you know, i had a beater car, i'm Like i can't be dropped, i mean that's how much my car was worth at the time. I can't be dropping 1500 on a skateboard, i'm like what, if i don't even like it, you know so i built one.
I did all the research i poured through the forums found a few youtube videos and i built one for like 600 bucks that went faster and farther than our actual boosted board. Um made a video about it and it blew up. We got like 500 000 views, i'm like oh, like wow whoops like i was you know, i was doing like little vlogs and little videos and stuff trying to like get youtube to like be something for me, and i was like oh my gosh like got like 10. 000 subscribers overnight, i'm like holy hell. This is something big. So i'll. Listen, comment after comment after comment: can you build me a board? Can you build me a board? I'm like? Well, i guess, like i built the first one, why can't i build another one? So i was like all right: oh i started a little website. I'm like you could you know, select a few different, customizations um.
You know i would take payment a couple weeks with later i'd buy all their parts, put it together and send it out, and i did that for a while. Like like three to four months, i built like 15 20 boards. You know maybe like couple hundred like two, maybe 300 bucks. Each time really was just supplementing like a little bit of income.
I was living at home at the time like just pay like for school and stuff. You know nothing big, but you know i was just building so many of them. I was like god this is, it was a hobby and now it's a job, and i'm like this - is like i'm being burned out like how many of these things am. I gon na build, like i don't know like how cause it would take me all day.
I mean at the time like i'm much more experienced now, but at the time i was like it would take me two days to get one more done, which thing seems like a long time and it felt like a long time and i'm like i don't know, Like i feel like, this is a long time so i was like you know what i'm gon na just make a few videos. I'm gon na just show people how i do it and then i'll just get the parts together for everybody and i'll just give them an easy place to just get the parts in one area i'll make. You know a little bit less than i was before, but then i don't have to do anything and then i can just help people customize. That was the biggest thing.
There was nothing on the market that was custom, yet everything was a boosted board or like nothing. I mean there really i mean evolve. Was there still? I've always was there, but other than that. Nothing.
Everything was pretty expensive at the time like that was almost four years ago now. So a lot has changed since then, but i did that and it like tripled. My like my uh my sales in one month, i'm like oh okay. Well, this is starting to be like a little still very little money but side business, okay, we're getting there, i'm like all right! Well, i'll, just every time people would ask yeah.
Do you have this? Do you have that i'm like? Well, i don't have that in my store, but i could get it and i would go and i'd order a few and i'd you know and as we went, we ordered more and more of different things at higher quantities and - and we grew so fast that, like I was having trouble keeping up with stuff, i'm like it was wild, so now we're at a point where it's just a big at that same idea, but at a much much larger scale. Um we've actually i've i'm pretty much self-taught on everything. So, like i, you know, i learned batteries actually like how like my original boards i'd, actually build the batteries from 18650s. I actually used quite a few of your tutorials to figure out how to do that. I mean yours me, a few other peoples, but really i mean i. I definitely stumbled across your videos multiple times learning. What the hell 18650 was. I mean really.
I was starting from nothing which is wild because, like i was selling these things like, and i wasn't really at the time four years ago - 100 sure what i was doing. I mean enough where i could get a pack together and i understood how the bms worked and why it was there and how the the pack was put together, but in the grand scheme of battery knowledge very very little really. I knew what i was putting in the boards was enough to do what it wanted to do, but other than that, like, i was just learning constantly just consuming as much youtube as i could and now we're at a point where you know i've taught my a Little bit taught myself a little bit of you know: 3d software and cad modeling, and i you know we produced. We just came out with a set of custom trucks that we designed ourselves and all right, getting everything made and dealing with factories.
And now i don't really make too much of anything, but i you know i'm here to help and i'm here to answer questions and give people the free knowledge, because four years ago there was a very serious lack of youtube videos. There was nothing i mean i was like struggling trying to figure out how the hell to build one of these things, and it took me months to figure out. You know parts list, and even when i got my parts list, it still didn't all work right. So i had to do another round of figuring out what components i was going to put in my board.
So now i really felt like i've dedicated so much time trying to make it super easy. I mean we've gotten to the point where, on our website, we've got a, you know, it's called kit builder and you can literally go through and you can click um. You know start by selecting what type of motors you want, and it just keeps asking you questions and based on the answers you select it'll, ask you different questions and at the end, you just here's a kit and it's all compatible the very first time, because that's Something that i wish was there back when i started four years ago and that's what i've pretty much been trying to do is is find areas of or or items or products or ideas for websites that didn't exist four years ago and make them reality now. So for that 20 year, old kid or 16 year old kid or 14 year old kid who's doing it now, for the first time, they'll have a much easier time at it and hopefully waste less money buying incorrect parts. So that's kind of the idea and now we're you know we're four three and a half four years in and it's wild yeah. So so now you have like a warehouse where you, where you keep inventory yes, so we have a full warehouse in in henderson. It's about 1600 square feet, not too big, but enough to put racks in and it's pretty full right now, um yeah. We have a lot of stuff.
I can tell you that we got a rock full of batteries. We got motors and and wheels and pretty much every part of an electric skateboard. You could think of we've got it there and it's pretty wild yeah. It started out as a hobby and now it's it's me.
My fiance works there full time. My brother works there. Full time wow, so you have three wow. That's pretty crazy! Three right now, yeah that so i, as i remember i, you came into my radar when i started using uh a website called kit, kit.com yeah, yes right so kit.com was this.
I so you're pretty similar to me. That's exactly what i did right. I did that with cameras you know and like some little accessories for putting lenses on a thing. You know it's the same story.
You know i built one because i wanted to make it and then boom next thing. I know i had like you know 20 people working for me and we were cranking these things up, but then, of course that was a bubble. I didn't realize. That was a bubble and then uh we had to shift into dslrs and then the dslr was also kind of a bubble.
And then chinese china came in with all the products and then kind of undercut us all and put us out of business and then other that i didn't know what the hell i was doing, because that was my first time around. But then, now i'm starting with batteries right and with the battery thing, i i thought about doing it different. I'm like i'm not going to hire a bunch of people. I don't want to manufacture products.
What if i just make videos what, if i just drive traffic and after i can do this affiliate thing and that's what i started doing and kit.com was this website that would allow you to put together all these uh well kits, right: groups of affiliate, uh or Products that you would sign up to affiliates and stuff and they even had an affiliate with the company or whatever uh, and so i started making kids there and then i remember your thing came up uh, i saw it or something you you came across. I ran out everything and i'm like, oh, my god, you're actually building batteries where, where you were among the only ones that were building batteries, everyone else was like using like lipo packs, or they were using. Some like chinese, build whatever right yeah, but you were actually building like what were they 10 s like 20 cents with samsung 25 ourselves, so they could output about 50 amps, yes, which was which is honestly, which is still now holidays, pretty decent. I mean for electric skateboards, even still most electric skateboard batteries, still don't output 50 amps. So at the time yeah that's plenty. I mean it still has plenty to get going. Quick! Oh yeah, yeah! Yes, plenty! Even you know! So! Yes, like i was like one of the ones that are old, no one else was doing it and i was like well like i was the point where i couldn't find one. Like my very first build.
I used three 3s lipos in series um, which again was fine, but i was like this sucks having to unplug all three of them and charge them all the bounce charger separately, i'm like. Ah, this is yeah. This is lame, like i'm gon na, learn how to do it right like or try to do it better. You know, maybe not yeah, because the thing about those lipos is that they're they're not bms, like they're right they're, usually made to put out like a ton of power, so the bms's can't handle or they're too inefficient, they'll get too hot.
So they're, okay. But when you charge them, you have to charge them with a balancing charger right, but usually you can't run at those voltages. You need at least 10 s to run a decent right, a decent you could get we've got a lot of. We've got a lot of customers who opt for like 6s batteries which would get them.
You know around 18 miles per hour 16 to 18, which for most people it's fine, yeah um. You know you get 10s. You start going up into the 20 25 mile per hour range and then you get 12 s guys for going 30 to 40 miles an hour which is wild, but now 6s. I feel, like i mean it's, it's pretty low, but it works and a lot of people don't ever have any desire to go faster than that so yeah.
The 6s has been fine but yeah. The battery that i was building was a 10s 2p 25r pack. Could output about 25 or i'm sorry, 50 amps, um, 25 yeah yeah, something like that yeah and like 15, continuous or something, but you don't need 15 continues unless you're going uphill or it doesn't take that much to once you get up to speed once you get Going right, yeah, yeah yeah, that's where people get like super hung up on these high crazy amperages, and it's not necessarily necessary um, but yeah it would go. I think it was, i think, what 25 hours or 2500 milliamp power.
So we had about five thousand million power capacity, which was getting people about eight to ten miles of range, which is pretty much like the industry standard at that point, so i was like all right. This is good and i was you know, buying them and selling, and i sold so many of them. I was like i had to bring in a buddy to sit there with me spot welding all day long. I was like this is insane like yeah, i mean because no one was doing it and i was no one was doing it.
I mean, i think china was doing it, but you were looking at it like you got to send hundreds of dollars to some obscure chinese guy and then wait months before. Maybe it shows up, maybe it doesn't show up, and maybe it shows up it's trash like because you know it's mystery sales for china right so yeah. That was the thing that you were there at the right time and you were early enough where no one was doing it. No one's catering that company i mean not that market right and that market was also you were. You were kind of making that market because before maybe people didn't know that they needed or wanted a skateboard, it wasn't until maybe they came across some of your videos and you're like oh. I want one of those things. So not only are you making it but you're also kind of creating the market. I know there's other factors that were creating those markets like like the fact that casey neistat was running around with a boosted board.
I mean that's one of the reason he's one of the reasons why i wanted one too. I had no idea, they even existed until he had a boosted board. I'm like i want i'm like. I want that i'm going to get one of those i'm like.
Oh, no, i'm not going to get one of those right. I mean yeah. This ain't going to happen. I mean there's something to be said about the boosted board.
It's a very high quality. You know board, but for a college student it didn't matter how high quality it was, but you know what they they. Actually, they didn't fare well like their batteries. Don't last well like three four years and you're done, and these are supposed to be batteries.
That last, like 6 000 cycles, they're a123s right, but i think the way they designed it with such small batteries, they're they're really being tortured every time you get on that board, and so you can they'll deliver the power, but they just won't last very long. You know you give them a few hundred cycles and then they're done and that's why people are like they're, probably asking you hey. How do make me a battery for my for my boosted right? It's crazy because we still get so many questions about the boost, because now that boost it's gone i mean there's not really a lot of replacement parts um available. So we still get questions over and over again about their batteries and and because everything's so proprietary and all the connectors are relatively proprietary, like their esc's, like lock out a lot of, i mean you have to really know what you're doing enough to bypass like the Esc restrictions, as far as just you can't just plug a battery in and it will work it talks with the battery bms right, yeah yeah, the bms talks to the esc and they like confirm together to make sure it's genuine and all this stuff.
Where, like i can't easily walk someone through that process like i can supply the cells like it's, probably your battery, but you're gon na have to like do a lot of work and like a lot of these people who bought a pre-built board, don't know how to Do that and they're not interested in doing it like they're? Not they don't have a soldering iron at home. They don't have a multimeter at home. They don't have any of that. So, like a lot of these people with boosted like they're, just paperweights kind of you're like they're, not really anything just rip everything out or throw it in the trash, we can save your deck. If you want to put your closure in your esc, we can do it. The motors like no, are the anymore. The motors have yeah they're good they're, just they have another weird proprietary, connector too, oh yeah, you just won't even strip that just trying to add new connectors on but again it's the same reason why they didn't bypass the they don't. You know nothing to be said.
Not to make fun of anyone who can't solder, that's nothing. No, it's just there's retail customers, yeah yeah, it's just not the something that they want to do like. They just don't feel comfortable with it and it's fine. But you know it's crazy, like it's a different breed of people, there's like diy crowd and then there's the people who just retail they just want to buy a thing and then turn it on and go right so and we're hoping to bridge that gap like we're.
Really trying to get like so like we're coming out with a board in march um. We haven't really announced it at all, but we're dropping like a pre-built board or kit depending on what they want to do. Um. It's called the interstellar and we're trying to make it where, if the people who want to buy a board, they can buy one and then, if, for whatever reason, m boards disappears off the face of the earth, we go out of business, so they decide they hate Us all the parts in this board the nothing's proprietary about it like there's, literally nothing proprietary and i think anything - proprietary hurts the end user, so we're making it literally all readily available parts pre-built for them so that whatever they want to do, they can make their Own upgrades they make their own repairs, they can do whatever they want or, of course, we'd help them do it, but if they want to, they have the freedom to, and that's like the biggest thing for us.
It's like that's why we were pushing all of our videos and stuff because we're tired of seeing people get burned by these ultra huge companies that just poof gone and they're all going down right. How so, how is it possible that you're surviving this storm when everyone else went under uh? You know, that's a great question, so no, no, it is uh. Honestly, i think, what's going on is, is people are, are they they got really really big earlier on than i did, and then, when china came up with all their knock-off boards, um yeah it kind of swept their legs right out from under them. Where i have been growing alongside of the china brands so like any, i, maybe maybe i could have grown exponentially better without them, but what i'm getting now is people have all these chinese boards that don't work anymore, so they need someone to help them fix them And that's where we're coming in as well and figuring, you know telling people how to upgrade their stuff selling them aftermarket parts um for their chinese boards or their for their. I mean we get questions on evolve every day, because there's just so many boards out there that are just old, like they've had them, since i think 2015 or earlier, some of them like they're, crazy old, some of them so like. I think we're at the point where we've kind of we didn't get too big too quickly, where a lot of the other brands got so boosted was huge. I mean massive and china just put a gigantic dent in the side of them and like yeah, where we are a three-person team. One of them is my fiance, so worst case scenario like i'm, not paying.
I mean she's getting paid, but it's the same difference right. Yeah brother, so we're we're staying small, but we stayed efficiently. I feel like we're pulling pretty impressive numbers at this point, but like we're, not this huge corporation with a corporate office and all these extra people who absorb so much of that income like it doesn't have to be that way. So i think we're by staying small and staying efficient.
You know we're able to put our money in the best place as possible and keep growing like we've doubled from last, like 2020 should have been a horrible year. We doubled from 2019. What really yeah so you're doing good! I mean part of the reason you know china was shut down, so we were at a certain point, we're the only ones who could get replacement parts to anybody for a while, because luckily, thankfully our bat, like our our inventory numbers - were able to mostly not fully But mostly outlast the delays in china, so luckily, by the time we were really getting super super low on stuff. They were opening back up and we were able to get more shipments in like that buffer for the public, where they couldn't get anything out of china.
my obx makita power box just dropped dead. its only my 3rd cycle of the power box and voltage dropeed to 40v, checked one of the packs and it gives out 9v? so did it die? it wont charge when i plug in my 18v 2amp charger
