You want tongue weight on a trailer. 60-80 lbs. I'd guess from your setup. to much to the back and trailer will start swaying back and forth. Also want a level or slightly down connection if trailer is tilted up it will have issues as well. Also you will find the longer the tongue of the trailer is the easier it is to backup as it turns slower and is easier to see in mirrors. oops, didnt see this is a 2016 video, Ill leave comment anyway

    What range was added??

It's great to see people are already working on this idea. I would love to see a range extending trailer that would add about 400 miles onto my Nissan Leaf. I hope Nissan is listening! Maybe they could rent the trailer out because I imagine it would be very expensive to buy one of these things. Plus you would only need the trailer when you take off across country on those long trips where the chargers are few and far between. If the trailer were also a small RV you could sleep in the thing and save some motel costs at the same time.

I sure hope you don't get rear ended. That's a crazy amount of exposed chemical energy.

don't know if someone has mentioned this or not, but the grote 82-1041 socket and 82-1042 plugs are rated at 200 amps (continuous), and might work well for attaching the power leads to your trailer 🙂

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sander Brust says:

Its better if you cover up the batteries with sheet metal. So you can use the trailer and batteries are in the floor.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brett Maxfield says:

not very clear what is holding the batteries on there, is it going to slide around with highway speed stopping ?

can you box the batteries in a bit with some solid supports, and fix them down to steel the trailer frame ?

if they shift around, it's going to be a bad time. those things are pretty heavy, loads more inertia at highway speed if you stop.
