I'd love to drive an S some day, even the base model. Closest I've come was when one cut me off on the cycling lane and I had to tap it to make myself heard.
With all the Tesla drivetrain hacking going on, has anyone ever built a non-Tesla chassis that gets to charge at the Superchargers? I suppose if you don't decommission the car after a wreck, it could be done?
Curious about the DIY car, is it a long range project? I'm a range nut, would love to see someone use more than a whole Tesla pack. Say, 120kWh. In about half a year the Model 3 pack may start hitting the market. Those are bound to be compact for 75kWh. Imagine squeezing 2 of those into a decent sized car… Heck, get 2 inside a decommissioned Model S 🙂
