I just get new batteries. old laptops like dell laptops are not used anymore but the made good batteries. I get new 2.4 Ah ones for about $1 a cell.

How do you plan on charging 30 cells in series? Using BMS or a charger for each cell? Thanks

The iMax B6 was it genuine or a clone?

I really admire your work. You are an Awesome guy.
I was wondering if you know about Pre/CC/CV charge cycles?

Pre= if voltage of battery is under 2.5V it will charge at rate of 1/10 C (for a 2000mah 18650, that is 200mah charge rate) until it reaches 3v, where it will go full charge at 2000mah. This is to protect the battery from overheating because when a cell is this dead, it is not good to charge at a high rate.

CC = Constant current. Charging at a constant current until the battery gets to 4.2v. This is usually 1/5C. 2000mah battery would be 1000mah

CV = Most underlooked of all. (many chargers do not have this function) When a 18650 gets to 4.2v it only has around 65-85%.  capacity. In order to get 97%, the charger will charge at exactly 4.2V until the amps read 10% of the previous CC cycle which is 100mah. For the last 3% the battery temperature will need to be at 25C (don't remember) before terminating charge.

Check if your charger has the CC cycle. When the reading on the charger gets up to 4.2V, it should NOT say it is completed. It should stay at 4.2V for another 1-2 hours before it indicates that it is done charging.

I just wanted to point that out because you deserve that extra 25%!

    Hi Jehu,
Excellent idea using laptop batteries. I've started an EV conversion here in Minneapolis and my hopes of lithium battery pricing becoming more affordable is fading. I think you're videos are great! I especially took notice of the display interface you developed shown in one of your past videos.  Is that something you could show us more of in a future episode?  I love your choice of the Samba.
    Thanks,
     Paul

Hey Jehu, I just spent my entire sunday morning watching your videos.  I'm blown away by your work with the 18650 cells and it's inspiring me to consider this option for a 1975 Alfa Spider that I am converting this summer.  I found your videos while researching the AC50 motor, and I guess if it can propel a bus down the freeway it would be fine for a small italian convertible.  I've been driving a Nissan LEAF for almost 2 years now and know how battery capacity can never be enough.. any way we can cut the cost down (even at the expense of time) is the way to go… would be awesome if every cell could be monitored and easily swapped out but maybe that's asking too much 🙂

I saw another video a few days ago a guy made his Porsche 911 electric and it was pretty cool.

My brother uses a big lipo charger system that lets him connect at least a dozen different batteries to it to charge etc. Have you checked an RC shop maybe they can help you with the charging issue for more then one battery?
