Why use a higher rated Contactor. (The bus bars were great thou).
So, you never needed to use a capacitor over the contactor?
series is not good, what if one circuit fails??
So you attached one lead to one contactor lugs, and the lead on the other side to the opposite contactor's lug?
Hy man sorry for bother you I have 1 tyco contactor when I power the sistem contactor works but built up a lot of heat fast what power shuld I supply to the coil I m using a 12 v acid battery 54 amps is too much? Tnks
Most of those contactors are not designed for switching loads. Those are mainly used for safety or emergency disconnection. For example: The contactor closes, connects the batteries to the charger, then the charger is activated. And, reverse, the charger cuts the current, then the contactor desengages. The cupper plates in those contactors will burn after a few live current switchings.
I make these at my job
Hi Jehu noticed the guitars hanging on the wall in some of your videos and was listening to the music in this vid and wondered, do you play any of the music in your videos. Thanks
The tall contactor has the same spring forces / current carry capability as the small one. The problem is you are exceeding the temperature rating of the epoxy seal. The Gigavac contactor uses a Brazed-Ceramic seal and can handle much higher temperatures without failure.
I just scrolled down to comment, in particular about the music, when i saw all the comments about the music. I just recently discovered you and love all the content and the way you present it. I have a '71 Super Beetle that I have just bought parts for and look forward to your help with it. I have to say no music would be my first choice. You are right, quality of music is important but I am watching for content and explanation, not straining to hear what you say. Keep up the good work but turn the music down, or preferably, off,
Just thinking here…. 2 contractors in parallel… If one gets welded closed the other one can open up and have no effect. The other is welded closed. This could cause a bit more of a problem because you could pull more power through a single lower rated contractor.
Also as I think about it. The contractors do not close at exactly the same time. One will close earlier than the other. Maybe only microseconds but enough that could cause a welded spot and eventually weld itself closed.
Your idea works well with resistors. With switches / relays you can have some long term problems. You also have no way of checking if one is pulling in or not. Might need to rethink this.
About the music, to make everyone happy, just lower it about 3 to 5 decibel on your mixer next time, easy fixed. Other that that your videos are great!! I think it was a one timer miss in this particular video. I mix music myself so i know what i am talking about. 🙂
I got a question regarding the battery pack that you guys created a time ago, the model s version battery pack. How did that went? Can you maybe make a video about it or just tell us about it a little bit more?
Thanks for the tip. I thought I watched this already and was right…watched it on the EVSHOW. I sure hope they continue to do that monthly show.
Hi Jehu. I like your videos! Using 200 amp contactors in a 650 system guarantees failure. Even 2 in parallel will fail. Gigavac and the other contactor company that I can't remember the name of, should have higher capacity contactors. My 200 amp Gigavacs are 20 years old and work perfectly with a 200 amp, 400v system. A guy has to spec the part for the job for reliability.
