15 thoughts on “Should i lease the new chevy volt?”
  1. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thomas Powell says:

2011/ 2012 had teething issues, especially door locks, electrical gremlins, apart from that pretty bulletproof

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rob'sTechs says:

By some used tires and turn it in

I work at a dealership. That is not how leasing works with wear. The dealership does not look at the wear and tear. Gm financial who the lease was through look at it and whether you turn it in or get a new on does not affect how they look at wear. You shouldn't make up information.

Did you save money on gas with that car

I had the same issue the OEM tires on my Cadillac ATS. I called Michelin to complain that the tires had worn prematurely as they were rated at 40K and considered unsafe at 24K miles. Michelin paid for 60% of the new set. Sucks that I had to pay at all but, I appreciate them standing behind their product.

Hint: Buy those tires from craigslist! Oh, I did trade up my lease for the next gen model of the Volt. Range is almost double compared to the 1st gen.

Let me preface this by saying I love my volt. With that said mine has gone through tires quickly too. I have researched it and it is proven that the extra weight of battery powered cars induce the wear. The volt is not light 🙂

I'm sure you agree you're paying and you can't drive. leasing is not the way to go.

With leasing you're paying for flexibility plus the cost of money. Flexibility (small payment) getting into the car. Flexibility (simple return) getting out of the car. The lessor typically takes residual value risk at the end of the lease. Here's how to analyze the cost of leasing.

Determine the miles you're going to drive each year. (Leasing does not make sense if you're going to put a lot of miles on the car.) Maximum miles driven will determine your lease payments. Add up all your payments for the life of the lease. Subtract the cost of the car as if you were going to buy it. (Include sales tax and registration.) Subtract this ownership total from the sum of all lease payments plus residual value. The difference is the cost of leasing. Cost of leasing is the price for flexibility plus the cost of money. You will have to decide if leasing is worth the cost in your situation. If the cost of money is sufficiently low, it may be worth leasing to gain the flexibility.

In almost all other aspects (e.g. insurance, operation, maintenance), leasing is the same as owning.

    I decided I'm gonna buy a 2016 Volt

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Irv Lennert says:

So Jehu, First you need to get the 15K a year lease.  And yes I would still lease but only if your getting 1 2016 or greater Volt.  for me that will keep me on electric 90% of the time with the extra range of the new car.  I am on my second Chevy Volt lease (I too punctured a tire but I only bought one tire).  I also got the 15K mile a year lease not the 12K a year one.  I love your videos!  I will probably do an electric one of these days.  I have build a few cars… None electric, I also drive a Chevy Volt now and love it!

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Car Geek says:

I have a leased Chevy Volt and just had a nail in the tire on Friday 11/13- same exact situation as you. I pump those crappy Goodyear tires up to 42 psi and they still wear on the edges no matter where you mount them and how often you rotate them. I bought a pair of new inexpensive tireson the rear for $158 at discount tire, and picked the best two of the originals for the front. If your lease is with Ally, they won't negotiate at the end of the lease. If your lease is with US Bank, you can haggle that $25,000 buyout down to $16k or better.Do you want the new Chevy, sure- it's awesome If you can afford it get it. If you want to save some cash buy out the car (US Bank), or turn it in and get a different used one. Usually extra miles are chaged at $0.25 / mile, your lease might vary. Good luck on your Volt and your channel and don't waste your energy on racist a$$holes. They aren't worth a second of stress. Peace & Volt-on!
