Ah, you just referenced Smart car (50 bought or something) and having 90amps and not wanting that to rush in… hmm that being said, I guess it depends what your in van charger is and what you would normally charge at 7KWh?

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RSTJ X3J says:

15 minutes in, and wonder if the lead attaching van to trailer was detachable, with a plug in port. You could remove the wire until needed, and then plug in when needed, or when parked up for a break, plug in as your mobile station.

Not sure how much regen brake puts back in, if good then would make sense to stay plugged in permanently.

Just thinking of loses and how much connected or is better to have the equal, balanced or in other words equilibrium?

Just thinking out loud… back to watching the rest, which seems to be you have linked them all together (videos I mean)

If no one already said it you cross the chains so that if the hitch comes off the chains cradle the hitch so it doesn't hit the ground and flip the trailer like an anchor.

    Hola Jehu .Hablas Español?

Crossing the chains prevents the inside chain from drooping so much while cornering. That's the obvious and common benefit. But much more importantly it provides a "cradle" to catch the tongue in the event of hitch failure. Otherwise the trailer goes horribly ballistic and tries to pole vault.

I like this music, but wish it had more energy. (See what I did there?)

I predict that you will have more success with your Jag35 company in 2016.

Hey Jehu, Big fan, I watch your videos whenever you put them out. I want to do to my Honda Element, what you have done to your VW Bus someday. Ok I know something about pulling tiny trailers behind you that you need to consider.
    1) The person who advised you about the crossing the chains is correct, for a couple reasons
    2) From looking at your video I believe the length of the tongue might be too short for the load you are carrying. If your load is sufficiently heavy and those batteries sound like they are, you are going to sway at high speed. The longer the tongue, ( that is the length of the bar that connects the trailer to your vehicle ) the more stable it will be at high speed.
    3) Finally and this is related to the 2nd item, if your trailer tongue is too short, and your load is heavy and you don't have shocks or dampers on your trailer axle, you are going to get the trailer getting into a rolling motion along the axis of the tongue, basically when you hit a bump on the road, the trailer will begin to bounce back and forth between the two springs, especially with the heavy load, and because of the alternating uneven shifts in the load then the trailer will begin a dangerous resonance induced swaying behind your vehicle at speeds usually over 40mph.
My recommendation, increase the length of the tongue I'd estimate the length from the axle of the trailer to the tongue should be at least the same as the length of the wheelbase of your bus, and you should put some shocks next to the springs to dampen the bouncing.

Just my two cents, keep up the vids, and the struggle, you are in inspiration!

as soon as you hitch drags on the ground (dips/bumps in the road) your cable and plug will get crushed

Congrats Jehu. I always find most of your videos very interesting. You have a lot of imagination but in this case I think it's not a good idea to build a range extender in a trailer. You have more than enough room inside your Samba. I think it's safer, more comfortable, more compact. Is your Samba DC powered, isn't it? Did you think about AC? How complex is AC for an individual to build on your own?

And another question. When will you finish the electric Range Rover?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 94Discovery says:

You said in the first part that you want to use 2 of these connectors why don't you fix them at the bumper up high because the way you said on the hitch it is too low you might hit a pothole and risk damaging the connectors ,put one left and one right to make a y shape on top of the ball .plus use the short side to the engine

a- frame to back of a vehicle angled so as the vihcles moves this lifts the batterys off the trailler onto a trolly for moving

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Simpson says:

put the socket under the vehicle or on a bracket off to the side of the toing hitch and loose cable on trailer that plugs into it the point above the hitch seems a good spot if you hinged apart of the bumber it would act as a cover for it when not in use

You ordered a part online that is available locally at any Home Depot, Lowes, or auto parts store?
