  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jek says:

How do you balance the charging of the cells without bms? Coz if it's not balance it will tend to overcharged or discharged.

Interesting, I'll be watching your videos and checking out your van. Something portable for traveling, like a trailer to power your van….lol

You can get away with not using a "complete" BMS, but there isn't really any reason not to add a couple of thermistors between the battery packs.
And cut the charging if the temperatures rise too high. It's a really cheap failsafe.
18650 are really solid and mostly well built batteries, and it's unlikely that something happens.
But it only takes one defective cell to potentially escalate to a big fire if there is no failsafes.

Also, just as an experiment, you should do a video where you heat up one cell until it blows up!

Yeah forget the bms for now they have to be programmed for each system they are setup on. Try some super or ultracaps tho like in a solar house system so more power on demand last draw down on batteries if I understand correctly. Thanks for ideas

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ev Jedi says:

Quiz how many factory built vehicles do not have BMS ?
How many laptops do not have BMS?
How much money have all of these companies spent on research deciding on BMS ?
How much money have you spent on your BMS research?

That being said. BMS Have caused several fires.
So having one or not having one does not guarantee you will not incur a problem.
We should all do research and then decide what is the best decision for our project that makes us the most comfortable.
We are in this journey together. Help one another don't be haters be helpers.
I personally believe in using a BMS In all my projects.
Just makes it simpler for me to monitor everything. ( they are not cheap )

When you make your videos where do you get your music in the background from?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Raymond Earle says:

From my perspective. NO BMS on any of my Lithium battery packs. It is the same with a road vehicles whatever there source of power. You misuse it. IT IS DANGEROUSE. That is the key. You do not need a BMS if you take care of your batteries. For example. Last year I watched my nieghbor trying to jump start his friends car. His lead acid car battery blew up. Acid everywhere. Why? Because he was in too much of a hurry and DID NOT CHECK POLARITY of the cables. Your gun won't kill you if you keep it clean and look after it.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Going Off Grid says:

I agree you don't need the bms for the most part, But I like a dummy proof system and that's why I use BMS in my projects, Glad to see more videos come to life as I have seen close to 150 of them 🙂
