what is your engineering background?
I've been recently following you and you seem to have your head on straight and your pretty darn smart guy. here's an idea. have you thought of reverse engineering it . if you were to use the 2 outer plates on the inside and use the same brass washers but use a spring load to apply the constant pressure, yes you would have to notch the aluminum to accept the plates and mount on the inner. it would be less weight due to not having to use the Allen bolts you now have.
just thinking out the box.. great prototype tho.
