4. why not put some thin semi flexible solar panels on the samba? you can get almost 400 to 500 watts on that roof of the car at 12 volts. then just up the voltage to the voltage you need. when you park the car at a lake or something. you get some extra juice for your way back.

   Good stuff here. Could you tell us a bit about charging your pack with a solar system? What would be involved in stabling the current? You have that nice 1000w charrger, would that work with solar panels and maybe a bit about the hardware that would be involved.

   Im contemplating a 12v system for my RV as I live in it full time and power is always an issue.

10. Hello Mr. Garcia. I'm a Mexican student of electrical engineering. I really love your work on your electric bus samba with the tesla battery. It´s great. I´m 17 years old. In Mexico there´s no innovation. Only large foreign corporations do. I want to change that. After all, think big or go home. I know the basics about electricity and electronics and I want to do something like your project, but mine it´s like a go cart with used laptop batteries but I do not know how to start or what to buy. I have an idea but that´s not enough. This is why I´m writing to you, to see if I can get your help. I´d like to know how many batteries I should get and what type of DC engine to adapt so it can reach about 50 klm – 31 miles. Thank you very much.

Jehu, I have an idea for you to think about and experiment with… you know how electric cars use the deceleration to put power back into the battery banks, just put an extra wheel down on the ground that is tied to two generators above. As the car is being powered forward, the turning of the wheel in turn powers the generators which put electrical charge back into the battery back. With gearing, I think you could possible increase a battery banks effective distance dramatically. What do you think?
