Pop in type metal contact battery holders have a finite amount of current that they can accept. The more banks that you connect in series, the higher the amperage. And the more banks that you bolt on top of other banks also reduce the amount of heat transfer to the air. Those 2 things are why I don't use this method of battery connections. I have seen a few battery holders do a complete "meltdown". If you live in a perfect world, then you won't have any problems. But if you live in my world, then look out! I have resorted to other, more solid type of connections. I hope that a manufacturing company will come up with a better method. We all want an easy to swap-out alternative to soldering or welding batteries together in order to get the amperage we need. Thanks.
I believe the fact the terminals are not welded or soldered so no molecular bond there for the electricity to travel you have maybe a single point on the ends of the cells touching the holder conductor and creating high resistance there and so high temperature. Best go back to more surface contact soldered/welded/screw-terminals for a more solid lower resistance connection.
