All right, let's not talk about batteries today. let's talk about inverters. All right, let's open up this inverter. Here is the Uh matching battery for this inverter.
Now of course, you could use this inverter with any 48 volt battery, right? But this company has matched these in the look of it and stuff and so it feels like they go together. Uh, same color scheme stuff. So both of these can be uh, put up up here in the wall and then you can add more of these batteries you can daisy chain I think as many as you want so you can have as much battery. This is a five point.
just over five kilowatt hours right of Lithium iron phosphate. So long lasting, super safe battery. Okay, let's look at this inverter now. I have uh, no experience with this type of inverter I've um, always just kind of concentrated on the batteries I Know that these are available in many different brands and these are quite popular, but this is the first one that I have here and it makes quite outlandish claims here.
Let's look at the label in here. So according to this, it's a Mppt Solar inverter, right? Part a model named Max 6.5 Uh K Operating temperature range: 10 to 40 made in China inverter more rated power it's 6500 VA 6500 watts DC Input: 48 volts 153 amps in apparently Uh 2-0 American wire gauge AC Output: 120 volts Ac: 50 to 60 54.2 amps This thing can put 54 amps at 120. that's that's a lot. 4 amp I mean four American wire gauge Uh and I think the protector.
The branch protector thing is the uh so that's either a fuse or a break or some kind of a breaker, right? Um, so Max 120 amps default 40 amps AC output. You know, Same thing right? Atkins Okay Solar Charge Mode rated Power: 4 000 Watts Really Now I'm gonna operate a voltage 223 volts DC Max Solar voltage is 250 Mppt Voltage range 90 to 230. outlandish specs for this little guy. One of the first things that strikes you is that for a 6 000 supposedly 6000 watt inverter, it's very light.
I mean look at this I can pick it up with one hand, right? So obviously this is not going to be a Transformer base inverter, right? So let's take it apart and see what's inside and then after that we'll test it, see how well it does. I kind of already some stuff apart like the screws. It has this little screen which is pretty cool. It's got, you know communication.
uh terminals in here so communicate with the batteries and stuff. That is pretty cool. So here we go. Wow! 150 amps through these uh uh terminals here I Guess yeah, they're solid copper I think they're and then they has a 200 amp fused.
So the cool thing about this inverter is that it's not just an inverter, It's just like literally three devices in one. It's a solar charge controller, right? This section is the solar charge controller, It's basically a charger. A battery charger that Uh has a wide range on the input for You can connect solar panels on the end right up to 150 Uh volts in here and then. and according to this 4 000 Watts which is crazy 4 000 watts of solar you can put in this and this is Tiny. Look at it, it's just this little unit right here. Then also it is an actual inverter. Once it makes the DC right and it gets the DC either from solar or from batteries, then it makes that into split face. Uh AC And here are the two, the two, the halves of the face right.
The two L's two ends and then two grounds in here. Uh, six thousand Watts. So again, for the size, seems like the rating is really really high. And also this is also a battery charger because you can put a battery in here 48 volt battery.
It also will take energy from the AC right and then charge the battery back up. All right. Correction: This is not a split face. I Just noticed here this is AC input and AC output.
Yeah, so one of them is coming in, one is coming out so it's 120 volt inverter. You can do split face with this if you get a second unit and you can even do the three-phase configuration if you get a third one right. uh. And then you can also daisy chain.
you can use multiple of these in the same face so you can increase the power right? So that's the cool thing about these. but this is not a alone is not a split face. So considering that I guess this, uh, being a 6 000 watt inverter. uh, just 120 half of the phase? Yeah.
I guess it's not that outlandish. But I mean it still seems small and light. and um here. Uh, look at this.
Uh I actually took the there's a cover that goes in here for airflow. That means that, um, they they channel the two fans that are in here and they it grabs the air from over here and then it goes down. and they have separate fans, right? So just for the solar charge controller here. whenever that's running and it's running hot, then it has its own fan to run that and it's got its own little channel here.
you see this black stuff in here. Okay, the main one also has it I Took it off just to kind of see inside what it looked like and this portion right here. Let's take it apart. It's very interesting to me because I designed a battery system that use standoffs brass stand ups to carry current and oh my.
God Some people call me an idiot because how there should I design a thing to carry power? That is the stupidest idea ever. So look at that. It seems like that's what they're doing here. I Don't know what this unit is? What is this? I Don't know.
This is just some extra board that for some reason they need it to. They don't have enough room to put it in there. But look at the the standoffs which are quite long are connected to pads that are electrified. and this is the portion by the way.
Another thing that I forgot to mention here that this unit is it's also Transfer Switch. It's got this set of relays in here that you can connect the power thing automatically. You can set it up to switch right? So one more device that is integrated in here. So that's why these things are great because one charge controller, transfer switch, and then the main inverter all integrated into one box that talks to each other and you can program it to, uh, work together. which is pretty good. I Like the design. Um, it looks yeah, it looks like a budget inverter from. China It looks very similar to the other inverters.
This inverter I think is not expensive at all. like things like a thousand dollars. And for the specs I Don't know if it actually does these specs. we'll test it, but if it gets close to those, then um yeah.
I think it's a bargain. Now here's the cool thing about this. this inverter. It doesn't say here, doesn't say here.
Yes, this. this inverter is UL listed 1741 which means that you can install this in your house legally and meet all the codes. Install this in your home in in many places in the United States and probably around the world, right? So that is very, very good. I Like this inverter I Like the design.
Uh I'm glad that I'm gonna finally get to play with it and then, uh, let's test it. Let's put this back together and then connect it and then see how it does. All right. So here we are.
we're going to connect this inverter to this battery. This is a 48 volt Orient Power Sim Company. Uh, and they're branded together. This inverter obviously can work with many other 48 volt uh batteries, but this one should work right out of the box.
So let's connect it and see what happens. All right, And we have power out because. well, there's a light turned on. So let's plug this into our building.
Here, right here is our building. It's our DIY powerwall, but this is the transfer switch and that plug in here is essentially to plug in. Uh, a backup generator, right? And so this would be the backup generator. Now let's put some loads.
The way we do that is, we just turn off these uh, from the main line. There we go. And according to this, there's a thousand Watts Dude, look at that. That's half the load.
How's that? Half the load? If it's only a thousand Watts All right, a clamp says uh, 41 amps times 48. That's like 1900, almost 2 000 Watts And here marks it is half the load. So yeah, 4 000 would be Max I Don't know I haven't messed at all with this. All I did was take it apart, put it back together, connected it to this battery, and then uh, now we're running this test here.
Okay, and now that we're looking in here, according to this thing is 50 volts of the battery coming in. 38 amps coming in right? So it doesn't match the meter here. ours is still 40 48. Let's see.
41. Yeah, so it wouldn't have been soft. it's only a couple of amps. Um, so according to this, output is 1.9 kilowatt.
Yeah, so it matches what I I'm getting on the thing. output is 31. Okay, so 31. That's one third of its capacity. 2 000 Watts Yes, because this thing should be able to do 6 000 According to that, let me see if I get battery 49 output. There we go. So 3.05 kilowatts Go. seven amps.
All right. So pretty successful Test: I Just running 3000 Watts No big deal. Um, next video will throw these both of these up in the wall here. We'll install them permanently and then we'll run.
uh, you know, a deeper test in here and then a charging test. Uh, we'll plug in some power into the DC for the solar ports and stuff and then um, you will see how this guy does. All right. Stay tuned for that next video.
We'll start that build tomorrow. Thank you Foreign.
"They are all great" No voltronic inverter is great. They are all crap, no matter what brand is put on them.
That board with the standoffs might be the driver board for the inverter.
Try it with leds and dimmers. The older MPP units used to work great all these new clones are having issues with flickering. No one has yet to get to the bottom of it! EG4, Sungold Power, all the clones are having this issue. I have been fighting with it for a year now hoping for a fix but so far 0.
Hi Jehu, i have the same battery but with MppSolar inverter. The inverter is 11kw at 230v(EU version).
I tested the battery capacity and is 100% corect labeled
Can you share the link for the transfer switch of the wall
Could you review the specification that indicates 120VAC input and confirm if the unit is capable of AC coupling?
Growatt SPF5000ES or SPF6000es.
Check out the losses. As a universal practice, by over sizing a device you increase its lifespan and reduce maintenance cost (if any). With a single point of failure that would take out the entire system, that is a good idea, but if you overdo it the losses will impact on its capacity.
Hi Jehu, I have that same inverter with it's original manufacturer brand name: Voltronic. In Europe (Spain where I live it is 230V) it outputs 7.2KW and just a small correction, the MPPTs are 2 each capable of 4000W so in total you can have 8000W of solar panels. Now Voltronic has created an evolution of that beast and in the same package size it outputs 11KW with (5500 W x 2 MPPTs). The only issue with this inverters is that they are VERY noisy, but that's OK as long as you place them away from you, and they cost a fraction of Victrons, Fronius and the like, and their switching time when they loose the grid is null, amazing! They don't work for feed back to the grid but that's because they are more intended for offgriders.
Same As The MPP + EG4… They Are ALL JUNK!!! No-One Has Got Their Firmwares To Work Properly! They ALL Have Multitude Of Problems From Shutting Down For No Reasons, Won't Charge Batteries Properly, Put Out Low Power Outputs Like Dropping To 60v-95v While The Front Screen Shows 110v-120v Outputs, ETC…I've Had Nothing But Troubles Installing Them! 👎👎😖😖
these inverters were originally built by growatt later mpp solar made several versions of them in the Voltronic factory and very popular in the off grit.
I have a 5000 watt 48 volt hybrid v2 several years in use and it has never disappointed me now i orderd a second one!
I would like to see a test for a full discharge and charge cycle, while max input load and max output load is attached … that is separating good from not so good hardware if it is able to handle it smoothly
I’ve been using a similar inverter for 4 years 24/7. It’s a 3000 w Growatt 48v. I hooked it to 1500 watts of PV panels. It can handle much more but that’s all I need for my small house.
I’m following you from Iraq 🇮🇶
That looks like a high frequency sine wave inverter, that's why its light.
It's a piece of garbage and I'm not just saying that we have experienced three other friends and myself it's garbage
