I just reviewed the ecoflow delta pro and then i did a tear down and in the tear down someone noticed that the 30 amp plug 120 volt plug right. The rv plug was wired backwards. Now they posted that in the comments - and i go. Oh that's interesting.
Let me go check it out, so i came back and i did check it and sure enough. It is backwards, and so i thought well, it's not the end of the world. You know having a an ac plug wire backwards, is not the end of the world right. It's not such a huge deal, but then i started thinking wait a minute if you plug it in this unit in a ups mode, where all the wires the input and the output is bound together.
Right there they're wired, all the neutrals are wired together, but the output is backwards. Then it's not a neutral, it's actually a hot, and so that's going to short out the internal on the delta right and so at the very least, it's going to the pass-through relays. Will burn up so then i made a video about that, put it out there reached out to ecoflow and they emailed me and says jay. We have conducted an immediate investigation to this issue.
You brought up and a tear down video. It is confirmed that this is caused by human error during the assembly process of the beta test units in competition. They want to send me another one um, so just so that it's ready to go right, but all assembly will be done automatically um automatically. Is that really a word? So it seems like what they're saying is that in the production units they're gon na automate, that version of the work which i find kind of hard - i i guess everything can be automated right, but that would be kind of hard to do right, especially since it's Got a little screw and you got to put it in there, you put it.
You got to put like open the screw up and then put an actual wire in there. So i don't know they're saying that they're gon na automate that we would like uh. Thank you for the effort and reviewing our product we'll make sure similar issues won't happen again. Okay, so that's what i got from them.
So here's something else that someone else noticed in the video they actually published a teardown video right uh. They published it before me, but in their video you could see that the unit that they are tearing down it's a bit different than mine mine seems to be uh earlier version, pre-production version. There seems to be a later now. I don't know where, in that process it is right because their video also has this plug and it's also wired backwards, and so here's the thing that most of us don't realize is like elon, has said that making a prototype is about a thousand to ten thousand Times easier than setting out mass production, of course he's talking about.
You know cars, but these little things are. You know, they're quite complex. How complex you can make them super complex, probably as complex as building a car. There's several thousand components that go into these things and you want to automate as much of those in there right, and so i don't know how far they're going to go into automating this thing. But it sure seems here that says that they're going to automate that part of the thing and so then there's less likely of that kind of error happening now. They know about it, i'm pretty sure they're gon na check it and and make sure that it doesn't happen on the production units, because that would be kind of a catastrophic failure right if you, if you two, were just having to connect that thing and then the Input in the app at the same time and boom uh, that would be bad news and i'm yeah they're gon na they're gon na fix it it's in their best interest to do so all right. If, for some reason you wanted to double check to see that your plug here is wired correctly, you know ecoflow said they would do it on all the production versions of this product, but just in case i guess it wouldn't hurt. Maybe some of you guys out there would feel much more comfortable, actually just doing a very quick check and that's what i'm gon na attempt to do here see this is this is still backwards, so i'm gon na check right here, uh continuity and see if we Can tell the difference between the wire correctly or wired in correctly, all right, so we're going to check continuity right, so the uh line should be this pin right here closest to the other ones and on these ones should be this.
The small one right here right. So hot is these two and then neutrals should be these two right here, right so hot yeah, so it shouldn't right. It should be see right now it's on the wrong. It there's continuity between the small one here and then the right one, but it should be on the left one here.
So i have connected this to the inverter, just to make sure that you don't get some phantom connection there. That would fool you, so i'm going to change this uh wire correctly, all right, so it's using a screwdriver! All you have to do. Is the solder tips right here so that the the strands won't fray on both of them. Look at that.
That is pretty cool. That's a nice touch now the problem is that it won't reach this one will reach no problem, so we're gon na have to get an extension for this one all right. So what i had to do here is cut another piece of wire, so we can add it to there. So you can reach around like this.
I didn't have white, so i'm putting red now before anybody has a heart attack. It's just the color. It's not that important uh, i soldered it right there, uh you're gon na, have to use a very hot solder gun because well it takes quite a bit of heat to to solder. Two of these together, like that right now, i'm gon na shrink to it.
Okay, so now this one goes here, then this one we could cut it short now, because it doesn't have to be that long. It might get in the way of things here right now. We're gon na just put a little bit of solder in here. So it doesn't fray all right and now the line is here: the neutral is here and then the ground is here and that should be correct. Now, according to all the diagrams on the internet, and according to all the electricians have posted on the uh original video tear down video that i did okay, so now i've rewired it correctly now right, i flipped the two wires now, let's check with our multimeter here, So line line there should be continuity there. Now there is there shouldn't be continuity here, but there is over here right, so the two closest together should have continuity and once apart also should have continuity, so there you go. There is one quick way to check that. Your delta is wired correctly again, like i said you probably don't have to worry about this, but you know if you wanted to check here's a quick, easy way to do it so also here's another way: uh rhea and the facebook uh ecoflow delta pro and max Launch group right: there's a facebook group uh mentioned and suggested that you could also use these uh products to test your unit.
If you wanted to yeah here, it is uh. She suggested this thing right here which converts the 30 amp into a 20 amp right and then, after you do this, what you would do is that you would use this other product, which is a quick way to check this. One has a set of lights here and according to the lights, you know if it's got open ground, open, neutral, open, hot or hot ground, reverse hot, neutral, reverse or then correct right now, according to this thing and might show you open ground, you would yeah you Would have to connect the the the delta pro to an outlet for it to not give you the open ground, i believe i think uh and then you would get either the correct or the hot neutral, reverse uh. So these are the ones that you can expect right if you're getting the open ground, then try that connecting it to the thing.
But this is a good idea, because these products are cheaper, right, seven dollars and the other six dollars for about. You know 12 bucks, or something like that. You can check your uh, the polarity of your of your plugs and it's a good thing to have anyways, because you know if you ever want to check a plug in your home a lot of times old homes, uh and even newer places. They have plugs wired incorrectly, all the time.
It's very common thing, even though it shouldn't happen, because there are codes - and you know licensed electricians are supposed to, but for some how some reason uh they do occur all time. So this is a very good idea to just own one of those, and i should have one i don't have one here. Unfortunately uh i don't know where mine is at it's somewhere in another building, so i can't use it to test it here. Unfortunately, all right, so i'm doing a quick test just for the hell of it uh, it's a two percent, so it's fully discharged it's charging at 16.88, almost 1700 watts right out of the total of 1800. Supposedly they can charge uh. I have this take taken apart, because i want to see these connectors because i think i want to see how hot they get right. Is that a source of maybe having a problem? If we can charge this at 1800 watts, but if we can do it at 3000 watts by doubling the voltage that we can put in here - i don't know so. This is that test.
I will check the thermal camera to see how hot those cables are getting. Okay, so it's been a few minutes uh it's at 15 now charge has been charging for a few minutes. I don't know 10 minutes 15 minutes and um that one in the center there is really hot 46 c yeah. Here's probably a better view.
That is the the connector and then here is the uh uh circuit breaker right, so that one that connects that actually is a hot leg right. So that's the line. Yeah, look at that 46. 44..
Okay, i guess i don't know if 44 degrees is too hot. You know maybe 50 degrees, but definitely i wanted to test that all right now. I have connected this unit to 240 volts right. So, let's see if we can actually get this unit to charge faster, it's about the same as it was charging before huh.
Let me see, but of course i think this one's on the slow. Oh that doesn't seem to make a difference, though. Oh okay, now we see that go 2500 2500 watts. So this is now gon na charge way faster right.
Let's wait! A few minutes we'll get to see the temperature on those charger on those on those cables over there. All right now we're at 26. It's been charging another 10 percent. It's taken.
I don't know like seven minutes or something like that, so the temperatures are the same, because i think what's happening is that it's the same. Actually, it's a little bit lower 45. and the reason why that is is because it's doubled. The voltage well is uh.
It keeps the same amperage the same current going through that, and so that's how you double the power right. The total wattage but look, these cables are uh are cool and that's. I think it runs a little bit cooler. Actually, if you run a double the voltage, it's still charging at 25 percent, it's at 27, now no 25, 2, 500 watts right so 2.5 kilowatt, uh rate off of the wall uh.
So that's gon na charge your battery really quick. But i guess that's not gon na be a problem that should be pretty good. Here's what the uh plug looks from the outside there we go about 40 c 40 centigrade. It's fine! This is fine.

Is we test the battery pack with bms? So first we charge it then discharge. It then charge it again, and everything is tracked by this machine here and we have all the data on the computer, so we're making sure that all the data matches and charges and these charges perfectly and safely so right here after charging, this charge test has been Performed we're installing the mppt and inverter on top of the battery pack, as well as the bottom side that includes wheels and back panel. The next step. There is an installation of the front panel and there are many more front panels expecting to be installed right in here. .
The matn problem is not that when using it in ups mode the most that happens is you fry components that's under warranty they fix it free the problem is for those that use them to power cabins think of it you're up on a ladder changing a light bulb and you touch the base as you're unscrewing instead of touching the comon you're touching hot the outcome can be catastrophic some people are allergic to electricity for most it's a little tingling for others a heart attack or knocking you off the ladder
I Work with robots and they do not handle fine motor skills at all. In a perfect environment sure a robot could screw things together. But in real life scenario every thing is not going to be lined up perfectly every time. And even with the best AI available to date a robot can not figure out a course of corrective action. So if they attempt to automate the process they should expect a lot of down time do to robot malfunction. Only thing I could think of is if they used a robot to solder the three wires instead but even then the production tolerances would have to be extremely tight to mitigate issues.
Human error is going to happen they need a device to detect proper wiring of every unit leaving the facility. Even if they had a plug tester. The amount of lability issues that could come of that is insane. So to respond with a blatant lye about automating that process is irresponsible. When you were simply trying to help.
Wow! Hopefully that's just beta units that's a huge production miss. Awesome find for the DYi Community to alert everyone that is pretty serious safety hazard… This wire tinning !? Highly debated topic… As your video shows with the thermal imaging terminals create heat! It's always the point of attachment we see thermal or mechanical breakdown which leads to failure very rarely the cables just melt… So tinting the wire can sometimes increase the heat affected zone special care should be taken in making this mechanical fastening.. The terminal is rated for certain compression torque rating to receive its rating… Also one must in sure the sufficient deformation within the mechanical connection to ensure sufficient loading services are employed.. The durometer; rating of compressibility rating of a soldered tin wire , feral pins or sleeves.. Must be fully understood for the application for which it's applied. Hope this helps our community. Ahhh stranded wire being used with screw terminals should not be tinned. Look it up “on the line”. An electrical wire ferrule (Cord End Sleeves) is a metal tube crimped over stranded wire to secure the strands within a screw terminal. First thing they tell us to check on 3D Printer builds. We build many high power extensions and chassis and all use sleeves or ferrules.
Hold up.
If they claim it was assembler error, that smells like BS. Why? According to your unit, it would have been impossible to assemble it correctly (you had to solder an extension onto one of the wires). That means they designed it wrong and the hot/neutral wires were designed to be cut to the wrong length.
Or am I wrong?

This is exactly the problem with all the beta review units. Companies hand build them and send them out to guys to review and show how great they are, knowing full well they're not built like the production units will be. They said they're going to automate that connection. You struggled with how they might do that with THAT plug. That probably means the plug and/affixation process is changing. They'll cheapen up the plug and use an insert connection, or a molded plug with leads soldered back to the board. This will decrease the quality and reduce serviceability. Sending out review units that aren't 100% as they expect to build production units (aside from reviewers pointing out issues and them being corrected) is false advertisement in my mind. They're having reviewers "sell" a model of product that simply isn't what will actually be for sale.
EcoFlow needs to default the charge rate much lower than 1686 watts default. something like 800 – 600 watts. Let me explain.
I just plugged into a 30 amp outlet in a campground. It's hot out. The EcoFlow it plugged in to charge at 1686 watts. That's about 17 amps on the plug. Now I turn on the AC 13000 btu. Then the converter is also on charging the house battery. Now we are using the full 30 amps of the service plug. What do you think is going to happen? And we all know how nice those service plugs are. Most of them are old and not up to the task. bad wiring, long runs, croaded connectors, the list goes on. Not to mention does the EcoFlow charger use power factor correction.
RV Service tech here. Electrical specialist. Have the hot and neutral reversed on an RV could pose a very serious risk. In some cases the ground and neutral are tied together on RV's. Yes i know that's against code but it does happen both by mistakes and by some built in inverter/chargers if not seeing a power input will bond the two. It's complicated but fun hence why I love the work.
